IF NOT NOW WHEN? NOW!
March 8: women make the numbers
Presidio and critical mass from 18 in Piazza Mercanti in Milan
After the event Saturday, January 29th in Piazza della Scala in Milan, and after the great national day of action on February 13, networked with the initiatives of "If not now when" we decided to take back the symbolic date of 8 March to continue to affirm the freedom and dignity of women, their intelligence and their knowledge as essential elements of democracy and the development of our Country. For this we will get to 18 in Piazza Mercanti in Milan, again with white scarves, to give life to a garrison and a "critical mass" of women.
We will do it with signs and banners and turning to the center by bicycle to explain that women are 60% of graduates but only 46% of those who work. Which are 42% of magistrates, 32% of doctors, 39% of the lawyers, 30% of employers but earn 9% less than men for equal work. Who work more than men in professional and caring work, but their contracts are part-time and fixed more than men, and most of them are poor.
In Italy (among the last European countries) 21% of Deputies and 19% of senators are women. In government there are five ministers, including 3 without portfolio. On boards of directors of listed companies the presence of women is only 3% (in Norway is 42%). 68% of women between 20 and 49 have a job if you do not have children, 60% if you have a child, 54% if two children.
In Italy, spending on social policies and family is the 1 .3% of GDP, less than half the European average, one third of France. Women do 77% of working families, only 10% of children aged zero to two years attended a nest. The welfare for children is represented by the grandparents (who them). Requests for flexible hours and part-time businesses often respond negatively (bullying policy). 40% of women under age 40 (and 55% of those under 30 years) is not entitled to maternity protection provided by law because he has a permanent job.
laws, religious fundamentalism, the work, some family policies heralded by those who hypocritically moralistic and, as premier, the first to pollute public life, trying to bring us back into traditional roles and to impede the freedom to dispose of our lives . There is a male responsibility in all this: just think of the benefits that man continues to provide, and material and symbolic violence in the female body continues to be, that is why women who have experienced Feb. 13 asked the men's commitment to turn our gaze on himself, to question their own history. Someone is doing, and is challenging us with models that the pervasive degradation of public life has produced, characterized as sullen machismo and the representation of women as sexual naked traded.
We want to say stop to this before it's too late.
We want to take over without a false morality, the city and public life, free of corruption, hypocrisy, from the familiar, homophobia. We expect honest and institutions that work in the interest of improving the lives of each and everyone. We are not for sale, we are not bargaining chips for partying, we're not behind the scenes but in the square. We
visibility to our desire to change this country, hang in all the cities and countries of our region a white sheet outside our windows from 8 to 14 March.
E 'March 14 because the date will be held in Milan in which a large assembly of debate and discussion to gather new energy and give continuity to the mobilization of women.
Women have the numbers!
